Architecture in the Classroom

A group of students from Dolz's class received a visit on 12 May from architect Mònica Soto to carry out the activity "Architecture in the Classroom," organised annually by the COAC (Official College of Architects of Catalonia). In the lead-up to the visit, we had introduced the activity in class and reflected on what an architect's work might involve — what kinds of spaces they imagine and bring to life, and what aspects they must consider when designing private or public spaces.

Mònica spent a morning with us. She shared her professional journey, introduced us to other renowned architects from around the world, and helped us understand that when creating a space, one must keep all people in mind.

What did she mean by that? We experienced it first-hand: out in the playground, we took on the roles of people who use wheelchairs, white canes, and crutches. This made us realise that architects must also consider these users when designing public spaces — parks, squares, libraries — so that our city truly belongs to everyone.
