Inspiration, Collaboration, and Big Learning Leaps in Secondary

At the end of April our secondary students and guides travelled to the Montessori Farm in Aulendiebach, Germany, for an inspiring exchange experience. During our visit, we had the opportunity to observe a thriving Montessori adolescent community in action, learning how meaningful work, responsibility, and community life are integrated into daily learning on the farm. The experience was both enriching and motivating, and since returning, we have been busy reflecting on what we learnt and beginning to implement new ideas within our own Saja community. It has been wonderful to see students inspired by what adolescent Montessori education can look like in practice and eager to bring elements of that spirit into our everyday work together.

Back at school, students have been balancing this inspiration with focused academic preparation as we approach our first mock exams in the first week of June. Across subjects, students have been challenged to think critically, collaborate, and make connections between disciplines. In English, students have been developing their comparative poetry analysis skills while also building confidence in debating and public speaking. In Citizenship, students explored the Suffragette movement and the history of voting rights, while History students examined the long reign and influence of Queen Elizabeth I. In Catalan Cultura, students investigated the legacy of the Greeks and Romans, and in Catalan language lessons they explored poetry and poetic expression.

One of the highlights of this term has been our interdisciplinary project on air quality, linking Geography, Science, and CTD. Students have explored topics including breathing and the respiratory system, weather and climate, and the environmental factors affecting air quality. As part of the project, students are now preparing to build their own air quality sensor, which has also involved learning about electrical circuits and designing a protective shelter for the device. Some students recently visited Alella Green Tech, where they received a masterclass on both the physics behind the sensors and the practical skills needed to assemble them. Once our sensor is fully operational, we look forward to sharing our findings with you.

Creativity has also been flourishing in Drama, where students are enthusiastically preparing a theatre adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, which will be performed during the final week of term. We are excited to see their hard work come together on stage, so watch this space for more details soon!

As we begin to wrap up the school year, we are incredibly proud of the growth and curiosity our students continue to demonstrate every day. From academic challenges and interdisciplinary projects to creative collaboration and community building, this has been a year of significant learning leaps and the continued development of a vibrant and connected Saja secondary community.
