Welcome to Barcelona Montessori School – an all-new educational environment informed by the highly respected pedagogical principles of Maria Montessori.
As the founder of Nido Montessori Barcelona, a specialist early-years learning centre for children up to age 6, I am delighted to tell you our story:
Nido is the result of my passion for the Montessori pedagogy. When my first daughter was born in 2015, there were no other Montessori nurseries in Barcelona. Having completed my training as a Tecnico Superior de Educacion Infantil, I wanted to develop an outstanding nursery experience for my daughters and other wonderful children just like her.
We now have two kids who are growing up in a multilingual household. I am originally from France, while their mother is an English speaker from London. We decided to create a nursery that would reflect the cultural diversity of our family, as well as embracing the local languages of Catalan and Spanish.
Nido opened its doors at the end of 2015, and we started as a very small project with only eight children. Our popularity grew and quickly exceeded expectations. By July 2019 we had welcomed over 40 children and bid farewell to our first graduating class, who went on to attend different primary schools across Barcelona.
Thanks to generous support and popular demand from many families, we are now opening Barcelona Montessori School (BMS) in September 2020.
When I started Nido, I did so as a man on a mission. It was a risky project, but in dedicating all my time and energy, I have learnt so much along the way.
My partner, Abigail Hatto, is a fully qualified teacher with over a decade of experience in education. Together we will exceed all requirements for opening and running a British School. We aim to create a space where children exceed the standards set by the English National Curriculum – all the while imbued with the Montessori philosophy for independence, respect, and a life-long love of learning.
Nido is accredited with Montessori Center International, and the St. Nicholas Foundation to provide placement for their CACHE accredited training programme. We aim to do the same for BMS and develop this relationship even further.
We have always strived to reach the highest standards of learning centres in Britain, and many of our current policies are based on recommendations of the UKNDNA (National Day Nurseries Association). Our agreement with the University of Vic similarly supports AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) masters students for ages 0 to 6 at Nido.
Perhaps most innovatively, we are also teaming up with Montessori Football developed by Ruben Jongkind to promote the life skills that team games can offer young children.
BMS aims to empower children to maximise their potential, encouraging them engage with their education and development; celebrating and valuing their differences, and aspiring to be and do their best at all times.
We endeavour to stimulate children’s spiritual and moral growth through a holistic education, and we invite you to join us on our exciting journey into the future.
